Background
The Abebech Gobena Children’s Care and Development Organization is a registered an indigenous non-governmental and non-political humanitarian organization founded by an Ethiopian woman named Abebech Gobena during a severe famine in 1980 in the northern Ethiopia. Abebech Gobena, Founder and General Manager of the organization, started her humanitarian work after she found a baby sucking her dead mother’s breast. From the very beginning, Abebech stressed self-reliance to finance her projects to the extent of selling her jewelry and other possessions and also run small businesses acumen to raise finance. Besides institutional care and support of orphans, the organization has started different developmental activities in rural and urban areas. AGCCDO has largely involved in rural and urban integrated developmental activities and supporting directly and indirectly about 600,000 marginalized segments of the communities both from urban and rural settings. Today, the Abebech Gobena Organization supports, directly and indirectly, a total of 1.5 million Ethiopians, out of which the majority are orphans while others are victimized women and victims of natural disasters.

Information
The For Kids From Kids Project is a project of the Ethiopian American Youth Initiative that aims to promote awareness and raise funds to help Ethiopian orphans. There are over 4,500,000 orphans in Ethiopia. Sadly enough, sometimes this high number is forgotten about. We want to see this number go down so that our brothers and sisters can finally find a place called home and someone to call mother and father!
